Yesterday marked the one-year tragic anniversary of the death by gun violence of Amy Wald St Pierre, a beloved wife, mother and friend to many in our community. She was one of the more than1600 deaths by gun violence in Georgia in the past year. Mom's Demand Action is a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures protecting people from gun violence.

For such a young leader, Commissioner Terry has really made a difference in our state. This past week the first campaign finance committee reports were due with the Georgia State Ethics Commission and we were the only campaign in HD 90 who filed. Transparency is important in government and political oversight and filing reports is an important duty in the eyes of the ethics commission and the voters. Let’s build on this momentum! This Monday, July 4th, I will be walking in two community parades, Druid Hills (11am) and Decatur (6pm). I love these parades as they reflect the camaraderie and joy of all people in our neighborhoods. This year I have an opponent in November for the General election who lives nearby. I would be honored if you would like to show support for our work in the community and at the state house by walking with me in one or both of the parades.

In-person voting takes place today, June 21, 2022 on Primary Runoff Election Day. Polls are open from 7 AM to 7 PM. If you are in line by 7 PM, you can stay in line until you are able to vote. Under new Georgia law, you must vote in your assigned precinct on Election Day.

Every year we each work hard and climb toward new goals. After redistricting, I'm happy to report I will be running for my 3rd election in the May 2022 Primary race. In Georgia, legislators are banned from fundraising for our campaigns while we are at the Capitol for legislative session from January 10th until late March or early April. This means we are working hard now to reach our goals for what we need to run a first-class campaign.

Biden Needs Warnock & Ossoff for Clean Energy Future!

The PSC regulates Georgia's public utilities such as Georgia Power, sets their rates, and determines how electric power will be generated. Daniel wants to strengthen utility assistance programs, bring high speed internet to Georgia's 159 counties, develop clean energy sources, and represent Georgia consumers and not the power company.

The moment is here. The last four years of tears, work, and sweat were all for this moment. This election could truly go either way, but we have a real chance at flipping Georgia blue. So if you haven't voted yet, head to iwillvote.com/ga, and make your plan to drop off your absentee ballot or vote in person on Tuesday.

There are over 60,000 absentee ballots outstanding across DeKalb County, and 6,354 in HD 83! Please take them to a safe and secure drop box ASAP or anytime, 24 hours a day, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. They can be accepted up until Tuesday, Nov 3 by 7pm, but please don’t delay!

We do have to tell you that electing Rev. Warnock in the Special Election is essential. If he is able to get an outright majority, he will be sworn into the Senate perhaps in time to cast a vote for the next U.S. Supreme Court appointment. If he has to get to a runoff and wins, he will take his seat in January.

If we flip 16 seats, Democrats will control the State House and will have a real seat at the table for the 2021 redistricting session (where we will draw Georgia legislative and congressional districts for the next decade). We can flip 16 seats IF we all pitch in.

Biden's plans for Clean Energy - 100% Clean Energy by 2035 and a $2 Trillion Dollar Investment are the right goals and plans and will have a huge impact on our future and our state. I am part of a team of people leading Georgia's Clean Energy for Biden effort and I hope that you will join us.

I am incredibly proud to announce that I have earned the endorsement of GAE, the Georgia Association of Educators, and their affiliate, the DeKalb Organization of Educators. GAE knows they can count on me to stand with them and fight for quality education reforms and support of public education.

I am sobered by the impact of COVID19 on friends, family members, and the wider community. Many friends in the restaurant, entertainment, hair care, fitness industries have lost businesses or laid off workers. Some friends have received unemployment benefits or Small Business loans, and others have not. Healthcare workers that are not front-line workers have had their hours cut or are furloughed.

The Secretary of State announced this morning that the General Election Primary date has been postponed 3 weeks, from May 19 to June 9th. This election was postponed due to health risks, with early in person voting originally starting at the end of April. The new early in person voting start date will be May 18. The state of Georgia is encouraging Vote by Mail during the Coronavirus pandemic for the May 19 Primary. The Secretary of State mailed all active voters this Application for Absentee Ballot this past week. Please complete and mail your Application for an Absentee Ballot today, so that the Secretary of State will mail you a ballot in the next few weeks.
